There are few things more satisfying than a beautifully plated Sunday roast—except, perhaps, the challenge of capturing its rich, golden hues through a lens. As a Manchester food photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of shooting some incredible dishes, but photographing the Sunday lunch menu at Tender Restaurant, nestled inside the iconic Stock Exchange Hotel, was an experience I won’t forget anytime soon

The Stock Exchange Hotel, with its rich history and grandeur, is a dream backdrop for food photography. The soft natural light streaming through the tall windows, the gleaming marble surfaces, and the intimate yet refined ambiance set the perfect stage for Tender Restaurant’s stunning Sunday lunch.

The challenge? Doing justice to a menu that looks and tastes as exquisite as it sounds!

From the moment the dishes arrived, I knew I had my work cut out for me. The roast beef, glistening and perfectly pink in the center, sat atop a bed of fluffy golden potatoes, with a Yorkshire pudding so crisp and airy it practically begged to be snapped from every angle. Then there was the gravy—rich, glossy, and cascading like liquid gold. Capturing its depth and warmth required just the right lighting, and trust me, I wasn’t leaving until I had the perfect shot.

And let’s not forget the sides! Honey-glazed carrots, buttered greens, and a horseradish sauce that added just the right amount of zing. Every detail mattered. My goal was to ensure that, even through a screen, viewers could almost taste the meal.

As a Manchester food photographer, my approach isn’t just about taking pictures; it’s about storytelling. The way steam rises from freshly carved beef, the slight sheen on the Yorkshire pudding, the rustic charm of a well-loved carving knife placed casually beside the dish—all of these details create an experience beyond the plate.

At Tender, every dish tells a story of craftsmanship and culinary passion. My task? To translate that onto a digital canvas, making viewers feel like they were at the table, ready to dig in.

If you haven’t yet experienced Sunday lunch at Tender Restaurant in the Stock Exchange Hotel, let me be the first to tell you: you’re missing out. And if you’re a restaurant owner looking for a Manchester food photographer to bring your dishes to life, I’d love to help make your menu shine—because good food deserves to be seen (and, of course, eaten!).
