Capturing Layla’s Brunch Bar in Castlefield
As a Manchester coffee shop photographer, I recently worked with Layla’s, a new coffee and brunch spot in Castlefield. The brief was clear: modern, cool, full of texture, flavour, and colour, designed to attract young professionals, runners, and dog walkers who live and spend time in the area.
Opening a new coffee shop in a city like Manchester takes more than great coffee and a well-crafted menu, you need visuals that instantly connect.
This wasn’t just about photographing food. It was about creating a visual identity that feels current, elevated, and completely aligned with the brand.
High-Impact Coffee Shop Photography in Manchester
Manchester’s natural light can be unpredictable, often soft, flat, and overcast. While that can work beautifully in some cases, it rarely delivers the punch needed for standout hospitality imagery.
To overcome this, I combined natural light with controlled studio flash. This allowed me to introduce depth, shape, and shadow, creating a more editorial, high-end look while keeping everything feeling natural and believable.
This hybrid lighting approach is a key part of my work as a Manchester coffee shop photographer, ensuring consistent, premium results regardless of the weather.
Styling for Texture, Flavour & Colour
Layla’s menu was perfect for visual storytelling, rich textures, bold tones, and layered presentation.
The focus throughout the shoot was:
- Texture-driven close-ups – coffee crema, syrup, crispy edges
- Clean editorial compositions – ideal for menus and websites
- Lifestyle imagery – capturing the Castlefield crowd naturally
- Colour contrast – helping dishes stand out on social media
We also incorporated a Sunday morning coffee rave, bringing energy, movement, and atmosphere into the visuals. These moments help communicate not just what the space looks like, but how it feels.
