Emerald Theatre London

Emerald Theatre London

As a food and drink photographer based in Manchester, most of my work keeps me in the North — but sometimes, a project comes along that’s too exciting to pass up. That’s exactly what happened when I was invited to photograph the brand-new Emerald Theatre in London for the debut of Dust and Diamonds, a sultry and spectacular production starring the iconic Dita Von Teese.

The brief? Simple, but packed with creative potential: capture the venue’s opulent interior, and shoot the cocktail and food menu in context — beautifully styled, under atmospheric lighting, with all the visual drama the production promised

Travelling down from Manchester, I spent two full days on-site at the Emerald Theatre, carefully planning each shot to reflect the theatre’s decadent aesthetic. This wasn’t just any launch — the team had crafted a stunning environment, and it was clear from the moment I walked in that the visuals needed to reflect both the artistry on stage and the culinary creativity behind the scenes.

As a London food photographer, your challenge isn’t just to shoot a plate — it’s to tell a story. The lighting, the mood, the textures, and even the garnishes had to tie into the bold and luxurious world of Dust and Diamonds

The cocktail list was as much a performance as the show itself. Think jewel-toned liquids in vintage glassware, crystal-clear ice cubes, and dramatic garnishes — everything screamed theatre.

Using soft diffused lighting and some discreet direction from the mixology team, I was able to capture the cocktails with their rich colors and smoky theatrics intact. It’s moments like this where being a London cocktail photographer demands not just technical skill, but speed and intuition — you only get one shot before the ice melts or the fog disappears.

The food menu was equally show-stopping: elegant small plates and elevated theatre dining designed to complement the entire experience. We shot the dishes both in isolation and in-situ — on velvet-covered tables, surrounded by warm golden lighting and plush Art Deco textures.

The Emerald Theatre’s interior design is a love letter to classic glamour — gold detailing, emerald-green velvets, mirrored walls, and atmospheric lighting. As a London interiors photographer, my goal was to do justice to the architecture and ambience while keeping the space inviting and cinematic.

I focused on wide shots to show off the grandeur of the space, mixed with tighter vignettes capturing textures, seating arrangements, bar details, and lighting fixtures. Every image needed to communicate mood and setting, not just structure.

After delivering the final gallery, the client was thrilled with the results. The images are now being used across their website, promotional materials, and social channels — helping the Emerald Theatre carve out its identity as one of London’s newest and most immersive entertainment venues.

As always, seeing your images put to use in a way that helps your client grow is the best reward.
